Bung Tomo was a real hero

Bung Tomo was a real hero

From Kompas

The article by H. Rosihan Anwar concerning the struggle for independence of Bung Tomo (Kompas Dec. 20, 1994) deserves special respect because his actions on Nov. 10, 1945, in Surabaya, East Java, contributed to the reasons for establishing Heroes Day.

The young people of Surabaya fought the Allied forces heroically under the command of Bung Tomo, who invariably imbued the people with a burning fighting spirit through rebel-operated radio broadcasts. Adopting the famous slogan "Freedom or Death", the country's patriots were ready to sacrifice themselves, body and soul.

In relation to this, the local East Java administration, during the leadership of the late governor, Moenandar Prijosoedarmo, once proposed that Bung Tomo be declared a national hero.
