Bundaran HI underground project targeted for completion in June 2027
The construction progress of the 4,439-square-metre underground multifunctional space (extended concourse) at Bundaran HI reached 24 percent in August 2026 and is targeted for completion in June 2027.
The Extended Concourse project, undertaken by PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) through its subsidiary PT Integrasi Transit Jakarta (ITJ), is expected to be completed in time for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary.
“The target is for this to be a gift for Jakarta’s five centuries and it will be inaugurated during the Jakarta anniversary celebrations,” said ITJ President Director Ferdiansyah Roestam in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Ferdiansyah explained that the challenge in building the Extended Concourse as the first underground space project carried out in Indonesia is that there is no existing example to replicate.
The Rp148.2 billion project is the first underground space development. If successful, it will certainly be followed by the construction of other extended concourses in Jakarta.
“We have to read the building development maps in the Bundaran HI area and also read the underground cable maps and a number of other things,” said Ferdiansyah.
According to him, this multifunctional space will have two access points connected to existing buildings in the Bundaran HI area.
The first access point is planned to be directly connected to Plaza Indonesia and Grand Hyatt. Meanwhile, the second access point will be directly connected to Wisma Nusantara and Hotel Pullman.
This multifunctional space will also be connected to the Transjakarta bus stop at Bundaran HI via a lift.
“So later Transjakarta users can access the extended concourse directly and be connected to the MRT Jakarta station,” said Ferdiansyah.
He explained that this multifunctional space is located at a depth of 18 metres below the roads of the Bundaran HI area, which is predicted to become a public gathering space for Jakarta residents.
“This Extended Concourse is also a solution for pedestrians crossing from the east side to the west and vice versa. The public can also enjoy this area as a transit space that certainly drives the economy,” he said.
The company predicts an increase in visitors of up to 6,000 people once the underground multifunctional space is completed.
The project is expected to become a new area that enlivens the transit-oriented development (TOD) of Bundaran HI.
“We hope to improve the comfort of public transport users while strengthening connectivity in Jakarta’s central business district,” he said.
