Bundaran HI MRT Station to be Revitalised into Multi-functional Space
PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is undertaking the revitalisation of the Bundaran HI Bank Jakarta station area into a multi-functional space, known as an extended concourse, to strengthen transit integration within the city centre.
“At the Bundaran HI extended concourse, the physical realisation progress has currently reached 7.83 per cent, slightly ahead of the planned 7.69 per cent,” stated Farchad Mahfud, Director of Business Development at MRT Jakarta, during the 2026 Journalist Forum in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Farchad aims for the construction of the extended concourse to be completed by mid-2027, coinciding with the trial runs of the Bundaran HI-Monas route. According to him, the project is being prepared to welcome the operations of MRT Phase 2A and to support the celebrations of Jakarta’s five-century anniversary.
Completed works include tree relocation, utility relocation, and the reinforcement of underground construction to prevent seepage. “Works such as tree relocation are being coordinated with the Jakarta Forestry Service (Distamhut DKI), and regarding works on the Plaza Indonesia side, fortunately, utility relocations and similar tasks have been successfully implemented,” he said.
Furthermore, MRT Jakarta is currently conducting a selection process for business partners who will occupy the extended concourse area once it becomes operational. “We are also conducting the partner selection process so that they can be ready when operations begin. We hope that by 2027, this area will be immediately functional,” he added.
The project is expected to increase comfort for public transport users while strengthening connectivity within Jakarta’s central business district. Led by PT Integrasi Transit Jakarta, the project is valued at Rp148.2 billion and is targeted for completion in June 2027, coinciding with Jakarta’s 500th anniversary.
The Bundaran HI Bank Jakarta station, situated 18 metres below ground level, is one of the busiest stations on the North-South line, with an average of approximately 450,000 to 500,000 passengers per month. This figure is predicted to increase once the Phase 2A North-South line (Segment 1: Bundaran HI-Monas) begins operations in 2027. The development of this multi-functional space and new entrance serves as preparation for the operational launch of Phase 2A Segment 2 (Bundaran HI to Kota), which is targeted for 2029.
