BUMN Holding Agency Accelerates Rail Electrification on Strategic Routes
The BUMN Holding Agency is promoting the acceleration of railway electrification on three strategic routes. This step is deemed essential to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and strengthen inter-regional connectivity.
The Head of BP BUMN and COO of Danantara, Dony Oskaria, conveyed this during a working visit to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) in Bandung. “Rail electrification is being carried out to realise a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable mobility system, while strengthening connectivity and the quality of public services,” said Dony on Monday (20/4/2026).
Dony explained that the electrification programme will be implemented on the Jakarta–Cikampek, Jakarta–Cigombong, and Jakarta–Rangkasbitung routes. This programme is expected to increase service capacity while driving economic growth in the surrounding areas.
According to him, the government is committed to accelerating the transformation of national mass transportation with railways as the backbone. “We ensure 100 percent support from Danantara and BP BUMN for the transformation undertaken by Kereta Api Indonesia,” Dony stated.
In addition to electrification, discussions also covered increasing the capacity of facilities and infrastructure in the Jabodetabek area. Other agenda items include locomotive replacement, technology modernisation, as well as strengthening services and developing freight transport through KAI Logistik.
Dony emphasised that BUMN transformation must provide direct benefits to society. He stressed the importance of transparent and accountable governance in every business process.
“We want this transformation not only to be structural, but truly felt by the public in terms of its benefits,” he said.
BP BUMN together with Danantara is also encouraging KAI to become a more modern and adaptive transportation company. These efforts are expected to support public mobility while contributing to national emission reduction targets.
