BUMN Executives on Alert! Prabowo Assigns New Tasks, Agriculture Minister Empowered to Do This
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto has issued a new directive to accelerate efforts towards food self-sufficiency in Indonesia. This requires strengthened governance and cross-stakeholder collaboration in the agricultural sector.
The directive is outlined in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 2/2026 on Accelerating Food Self-Sufficiency in Agriculture to Realise National Resilience and National Independence, effective from the date of issuance, 25 March 2026.
In the Inpres, Prabowo instructs the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), Minister of Finance (Menkeu), Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Body (BP BUMN), and Head of the Danantara Nusantara Future Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) to carry out a series of coordinated and integrated steps in accordance with their respective duties, functions, and authorities.
These steps include:
Implementing the acceleration of food availability from domestic production and improving the management of food distribution, consumption patterns, food accessibility, and sustainable agricultural cultivation systems through active participation in planning, implementation, and monitoring processes.
Resolving issues and obstacles in the availability of food from domestic production and improving the management of food distribution, consumption patterns, food accessibility, and sustainable agricultural cultivation systems.
Reporting the results of the implementation of the food self-sufficiency acceleration programme to the President periodically or as needed.
Additionally, there are three specific tasks assigned to the Minister of Agriculture, namely:
Assigning state-owned enterprises in food and agriculture, including PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara (Persero), PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara (Persero), PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero), PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (Persero), PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Perum Bulog, and other SOEs, to accelerate food self-sufficiency in agriculture in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Providing written recommendations on key performance indicators for the assignment of state-owned enterprises in agriculture, agroindustry, and food logistics as referred to in point a.
Providing written considerations for the appointment and dismissal of Directors, Boards of Commissioners, and Supervisory Boards of state-owned enterprises in agriculture, agroindustry, and food logistics as referred to in point a.
To the Minister of Finance, Prabowo assigns the task of providing facilities and technical support for budgeting to accelerate food self-sufficiency in agriculture.
To the BP BUMN, Prabowo’s instruction is to support the Minister of Agriculture in carrying out the tasks instructed to the Minister in accelerating food self-sufficiency.
Meanwhile, to Danantara, Prabowo instructs the provision of facilities and technical support in managing the operations of SOEs in agriculture, agroindustry, and food logistics for accelerating food self-sufficiency in agriculture, in accordance with its duties and authorities.
Funding for the implementation of this Presidential Instruction shall come from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget and other lawful and non-binding sources in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, as stated in the Third Dictum of Inpres No. 2/2026, quoted on Friday (17/4/2026).
The Fourth Dictum orders all related parties to implement Inpres No. 2/2026 with full responsibility and to maintain good governance.
