Jakarta (ANTARA) - Dony Oskaria, Head of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and COO of Danantara, has said that PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero), or INKA, needs to carry out a comprehensive transformation to strengthen the company’s foundations and build healthier, more competitive and sustainable performance.

“We want to carry out a turnaround. And a turnaround can only be done if we share the same commitment to making this company better, with proper governance,” Dony said in an official statement confirmed by ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Dony assessed that INKA’s current condition requires serious turnaround steps.

This is reflected in the company’s negative equity position, unsustainable loans of Rp4.7 trillion, and corporate losses reaching Rp670 billion.

According to Dony, improving INKA requires a shared commitment from the entire company hierarchy, prioritising strong and proper governance.

The transformation of INKA will be carried out comprehensively by fixing various fundamental aspects of the company, from the business model, governance, work culture, production quality, operations, engineering and finance, to business processes.

All of these aspects need to be set out in an integrated transformation grand plan that will serve as a reference in running the company’s improvement process.

Strengthening INKA also carries strategic significance for the development of the national railway industry.

As the national railway manufacturer, INKA is considered to play an important role in driving industrialisation while creating jobs.

The transformation is expected to go beyond improving the company’s performance, and to build INKA into a stronger, more efficient manufacturing company with competitiveness in the global railway industry.

“What I want, as the President said earlier, is for our railway industry to truly advance,” Dony said.

With a healthier financial foundation, strong governance, and comprehensive improvements across every business pillar, INKA is expected to rise as a competitive company and become a driving force for strengthening the national railway industry.
