Bumi Targets Wolfram Copper and Gold Mine Operations This Year
Jakarta — Mining company PT Bumi Resources Tbk (Bumi) is targeting the recently acquired Wolfram copper and gold mining project to commence operations shortly, as part of the company’s business expansion following the 2025 acquisition.
Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Bumi Resources, Christopher Fong, stated that the Wolfram copper mining project is expected to begin operations within the coming weeks, with the company confident that the project will contribute positively to performance this year.
“We are expecting good results this year,” said Christopher Fong when met in South Jakarta on Thursday, 13 March 2026.
Fong explained that delays had occurred due to the company’s ongoing relocation of processing plant facilities. Nevertheless, he estimated that production from the gold mining project could begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
“We also estimate that Jubilee production will commence in the fourth quarter of 2026,” he explained.
Bumi is currently expanding its business into the high-value minerals sector, with expansion focus encompassing gold, copper, and bauxite commodities. The company is also developing downstream processing programmes and strengthening long-term sustainability initiatives.
“Going forward, we will be increasingly focused on metals and minerals. Whilst coal remains an important part of our business, we will also expand into copper, gold, and various other minerals,” he said.
The transaction value reached AUD 31.47 million, or approximately IDR 346.93 billion. Following completion of the transaction, Bumi’s ownership stake in the company increased to 64.98 per cent. The acquisition forms part of the company’s long-term diversification strategy.
