Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Bulungan Regency Government welcomes the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) to protect children in the digital space. “We very much welcome it,” said Bulungan Regent Syarwani in Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan Province (Kaltara), on Tuesday. With the issuance of Minister of Communication and Digital Regulation Number 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation for PP Tunas, he hopes for cooperation from various parties to oversee the restriction of digital platforms as an effort to protect children in the digital space. “Of course, the matter of restrictions will be followed up through the relevant department heads, but more importantly, there is also support from school committees for us to jointly monitor and supervise our children,” he said. This support from the Bulungan Regency Government, he added, is inseparable from the significant impact of the use of social media and digital platforms on children’s abilities, quality, and achievement. “Well, as parents, we also have a responsibility to monitor our children, especially at home,” he stated. The government-issued restriction regulation, said Syarwani, will also serve as material for further socialisation by the Bulungan Regency Government. Currently, he added, the Bulungan Regency Government is proposing a draft regional regulation on regional innovation to provide space for the entire community, including teachers and children, to innovate and bring forth local potentials. “The innovation we hope for is one that is educational, shaping our children’s character. Of course, the local content potentials are still very promising to be developed and integrated into the existing learning system in Bulungan Regency,” he said.
