Bulungan may get national park honor
SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: The provincial administration has welcomed the proposal by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to accord national park status to the 400,000-hectare Sebuku- Sembakung forest in Bulungan regency, Antara reported on Monday.
Kayat R. Soekaryo, head of the province's plantation and forestry office, said the proposal would soon be discussed in Jakarta by representatives of the local WWF office, the Ministry of Forestry and Plantations and timber companies operating in the area.
The WWF noted the forest, located near the border with Malaysia, was rich in biodiversity resources. (01)
