MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: The regency of Bulukumba in South Sulawesi is to be promoted as one of the region's major tourist magnets with Bira in Bontobahari district as its hub.
Bulukumba Regent H.A. Patabai Pabokori said in Makassar on Wednesday that his regency had lots to offer tourists from natural landscapes such as coasts, mountains, lakes and caves to cultural events and historic relics.
The tourist center of Bira, a cape surrounded by white sand has a number of attractions, including Bulukumba's traditional pinisi boats, waterfalls, ancient tombs and World War II relics.
Located in the southern part of South Sulawesi about 153 kilometers from Makassar, Bulukumba, the area also offers beautiful plateaus and hilly areas.
"Historically, the regency is famous as South Sulawesi's center of Islam, economy, education and defense in view of its strategic geographic position," the regent said. --Antara
