Bulog Yogyakarta Regional Office Absorbs Paddy of Various Qualities from Farmers

Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Perum Bulog’s Yogyakarta Regional Office is absorbing farmers’ unhusked rice at Rp6,500 per kilogram across a range of quality levels, provided the grain has reached the proper harvest age before being processed into rice to the government’s specifications.

“This policy ensures that farmers’ harvests are still absorbed even when the quality of the unhusked rice varies, before it is processed through our milling partners until it meets the quality standards for rice set by the government,” said the Head of Perum Bulog’s Yogyakarta Regional Office, Dedi Aprilyadi, at the Bulog Purwomartani warehouse in Sleman Regency on Monday.

According to him, Bulog buys harvested dry unhusked rice at Rp6,500 per kilogram across various quality levels as long as it has reached the proper harvest age.

“The unhusked rice is then processed together with our partners until it becomes rice that meets the standards set by the government,” he said.

He explained that the unhusked rice absorbed by Bulog does not go straight into storage, but is first dried using drying machines or drying floors before being milled into rice.

“The processed rice must meet the quality specifications set by the government, namely a maximum broken grain content of 25 per cent, moisture content of 14 per cent, and maximum bran content of two per cent before being stored as Government Rice Reserves (CBP). The unhusked rice of varying quality is processed into rice of the same quality standard before entering Bulog’s warehouses,” he said.

Dedi said that to accelerate the absorption of unhusked rice, Bulog is working with regional governments, field agricultural extension officers (PPL), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), Food Procurement Partners (MPP), and has formed Food Collection Teams that go directly to production centres to buy farmers’ harvested unhusked rice.

“As of mid-July 2026, Bulog’s Yogyakarta Regional Office has absorbed approximately 198,000 tonnes of rice equivalent, exceeding this year’s procurement target of 195,000 tonnes, covering the Special Region of Yogyakarta as well as the former residencies of Kedu and Banyumas in Central Java,” he said.

He said this achievement was supported by good paddy production during this year’s harvest season as well as synergy between regional governments, the TNI, the Polri, Food Procurement Partners (MPP), and agricultural extension officers in accelerating the absorption of farmers’ unhusked rice.

“Besides the good production, we are also supported by the provincial government, district and city governments, the TNI, the Polri, the MPP, and agricultural extension officers, so we receive harvest information quickly and absorption can be carried out immediately,” he said.

Bulog’s Yogyakarta Regional Office, he said, currently controls a stock of around 246,000 tonnes of rice spread across its working area through 17 warehouse complexes, 60 warehouse units, and 117 rented warehouses.

“The total warehouse capacity of Bulog’s Yogyakarta Regional Office is around 311,000 tonnes including rented warehouses. That stock is expected to be sufficient until the next harvest season in 2027. God willing, our current stock of 246,000 tonnes will be enough to cover the period up to the next harvest in 2027,” he said.
