Bulog Urges Citizens to Avoid Panic Buying, Rice and Cooking Oil Stocks Secure
Jakarta – State-owned enterprise Perum Bulog has assured the public that stocks of essential foodstuffs, particularly rice and cooking oil, are in secure condition and sufficient to meet the needs of the population through the end of the year.
The public has been urged to remain calm and refrain from excessive purchasing or panic buying, despite the approach of Eid al-Fitr and amid broader global geopolitical dynamics.
Bulog’s Chief Executive Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani stated that the government’s rice reserves (CBP) stored in the company’s warehouses have reached 3.74 million tonnes.
This quantity will continue to increase as domestic grain and rice procurement activities continue across all regions.
“With harvests taking place in various regions and the procurement efforts we continue to undertake, we are projecting that stocks will increase and by the end of March could reach the range of 4.5 to 5 million tonnes,” said Ahmad Rizal in a statement on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
Ahmad Rizal stated that with such supply support, the availability of rice and cooking oil for the public remains secure.
“With strong rice stocks and support for cooking oil supplies through the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) policy, the public need not worry about food availability. We ensure supplies remain available and sufficient to meet the public’s needs,” he said.
In addition to these two primary commodities, Ahmad Rizal assured that the availability of other basic necessities remains adequately monitored. He noted that based on field monitoring, prices of various basic commodity items remain relatively stable and controlled in the market.
According to him, Bulog in collaboration with the government continues to take various measures to maintain supply and price stability for food, including through strengthened distribution, domestic production absorption, and the implementation of various food stabilisation programmes.
“There is no need for panic in society. National food stocks are in secure condition and the government continues to ensure their availability. We urge the public to remain calm and shop in a normal manner,” concluded Ahmad Rizal.
