Bulog Sulteng Partners with Agricultural Extension Workers to Support Corn Self-Sufficiency
Palu (ANTARA) – Perum Bulog’s Central Sulawesi regional office is partnering with agricultural extension workers in Sigi Regency to support increased corn production and procurement, strengthening the national corn self-sufficiency programme.
“Agricultural extension workers play an important role in assisting farmers, identifying land potential, and providing information on production trends and corn harvest schedules,” said Jusri Pakee, head of Bulog’s Central Sulawesi regional office, at a meeting with extension workers in Sigi Regency on Monday.
He said cooperation with agricultural extension workers was needed to strengthen coordination from production through to the procurement of farmers’ harvests.
Bulog Central Sulawesi has been set a target of procuring 3,300 tonnes of domestic corn in 2026. By mid-year, procurement had exceeded 800 tonnes.
“We hope the corn potential in Sigi Regency can be mapped more effectively, so that procurement of the harvest can be prepared in line with conditions on the ground,” he said.
According to Jusri, accurate information on production potential and harvest schedules can help Bulog optimise corn procurement and provide farmers with certainty of a market.
The collaboration is also part of efforts to strengthen the regional agricultural sector, improve farmers’ welfare, and support the development of an independent and sustainable food system.
“We are committed to continuing our partnerships with agricultural extension workers and other stakeholders to support the achievement of corn self-sufficiency and strengthen national food security,” he said.
He added that procuring farmers’ harvests and distributing corn under the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) programme were mutually supportive measures to maintain supply balance and price stability, as well as to help improve the welfare of local farmers and livestock breeders.
