Bulog Sulteng Delivers Food Aid to Earthquake Victims

Palu (ANTARA) - Perum Bulog’s Central Sulawesi Regional Office has distributed food logistics assistance to ease the burden on residents affected by earthquakes in Sigi Regency.

“The logistics we are distributing are donations from Bulog Central Sulawesi employees, as part of our commitment to this humanitarian mission,” said the Regional Head of Bulog Central Sulawesi, Jusri, in Palu on Thursday.

He explained that in emergency conditions, food logistics are vital for affected communities, prompting the agency to take the initiative to distribute 80 sacks of rice, each in five-kilogram packages.

“This also includes cooking oil and granulated sugar, with the hope that this assistance can lighten the burden on disaster victims,” he added.

He further noted that Bulog is currently conducting food assistance (Bapang) programmes for underprivileged residents in Sigi Regency, where each beneficiary receives 20 kilograms of rice per month. The Nokilalaki and Palolo districts are the primary targets of this programme.

Consequently, it is hoped that the Bapang programme can also assist in meeting the logistical needs of the affected population.

“Regarding specific assignments for disaster relief, we are awaiting coordination between the National Food Agency (Bapanas) and the local government,” Jusri said.

Meanwhile, the Vice Regent of Sigi, Samuel Pongi, stated that since the second day following the earthquake, logistical aid from various parties has begun to arrive, including food supplies, clean water, tents, and other necessities.

“We are grateful to all parties participating in easing the burden of the disaster victims,” he said.

As of the third day post-earthquake, the emergency response task force continues to accelerate handling efforts, ranging from logistics distribution and debris clearance to providing medical services to the community.

According to BPBD data as of 18 June, the number of affected residents in Sigi has reached 2,109 households, or 6,412 individuals. Furthermore, 84 public facilities, including schools, places of worship, government offices, health centres, and clean water networks, have sustained damage.

Additionally, the number of damaged houses has risen to 1,652 units, consisting of 1,472 light damages, 111 moderate damages, and 69 heavy damages, spread across 38 villages.
