Bulog Sulselbar to Build 11 New Warehouses in 2026 to Strengthen Food Storage Capacity

Makassar (ANTARA) - Perum Bulog Sulselbar (South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi) will build 11 new warehouse sites by the end of 2026 in an effort to strengthen food reserve storage capacity for the public.

The addition of new warehouses is considered crucial because the condition of Bulog’s warehousing in the Sulselbar region has become limited.

Head of Perum Bulog Sulselbar Regional Office Fahrurozi said in Makassar on Friday that Bulog Sulselbar’s current rice stock has reached 855,000 tonnes, while its own warehouses can only hold 364,000 tonnes of rice reserves spread across 52 warehouse complexes (204 warehouse units).

“This condition shows that more than half of the rice stock we manage must be stored outside Bulog-owned warehouses, such as in rented private warehouses or partner rice mill warehouses,” he explained.

Fahrurozi said his office had to spend Rp48 billion in 2025 on renting warehouses scattered across various areas in South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi.

Around November 2026, Bulog Sulselbar is ready to build 11 new rice storage warehouses, which are projected to be completed within the next 6-7 months, or around May and June 2027.

The construction of the 11 new warehouse sites is part of Perum Bulog’s central strategic programme, which has allocated 100 warehouse construction sites across Indonesia.

The 11 sites are spread across several regencies, including Pinrang, Bone, Palopo, Bulukumba and Selayar, as well as Mamasa in West Sulawesi.

Each warehouse unit is projected to have an average storage capacity of 3,500 tonnes. Thus, the 11 new sites will add warehouse capacity of 38,000 to 40,000 tonnes.

He explained that of the 11 planned locations, eight will be built on land owned by Perum Bulog. Meanwhile, the other three utilise land granted by local governments, namely Bone, Mamasa and Selayar Regencies.

“Currently, the project is entering the technical design phase and preparation of the Budget Plan (RAB) by planning consultants, which is running in parallel with the administrative process of land certification,” he explained.

To address the shortage of space for storing rice reserves, Bulog is also continuing to strengthen its collaboration network with private rice mill owners and the Indonesian Rice Millers and Rice Entrepreneurs Association (Perpadi), particularly in key production centres such as Sidrap and Pinrang Regencies.
