Bulog South Sumatra and Bangka Belitung Absorbs 99,466 Tonnes of Farmers' Paddy and Rice

Perum Bulog’s Regional Office for South Sumatra and Bangka Belitung (Sumsel Babel) has recorded the absorption of 99,466 tonnes of paddy and rice equivalent up to early June 2026, aimed at supporting national food procurement and strengthening the Government Rice Reserves (CBP).

Speaking in Palembang on Thursday, Ihsan, the Head of Perum Bulog Kanwil Sumsel Babel, stated that this achievement demonstrates Bulog’s commitment to optimally absorbing farmers’ harvests while supporting national food security programmes. “The realisation of 99,4cal66 tonnes of rice equivalent in the Sumsel Babel working area shows our commitment to remaining present among farmers, ensuring harvests are absorbed optimally, and supporting the strengthening of national food security,” he said.

According to Ihsan, the successful absorption of paddy and rice is the result of synergy between various parties, including farmers, central and regional governments, the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), Polri (National Police), agricultural extension officers, and rice milling entrepreneurs, all of whom play a role in supporting smooth food procurement.

This achievement also demonstrates the effectiveness of government policy in maintaining farmers’ paddy prices through the establishment of the Government Purchase Price (HPP) at Rp6,500 per kilogram, providing market certainty for farmers.

Nationally, Bulog’s absorption of farmers’ paddy and rice as of 3 June 2026 has reached 3,008,626 tonnes of rice equivalent, representing approximately 75 per cent of the national procurement target of 4 million tonnes for this year. This has also contributed to strengthening the Government Rice Reserves, which are currently at the highest level in the modern history of national food management. The rice stocks managed by Bulog nationally have exceeded 5 million tonnes, enabling support for various government needs, ranging from price stabilisation and food aid distribution to disaster anticipation and market volatility management.

Bulog remains optimistic that the procurement target of 4 million tonnes of rice equivalent for 2026 can be achieved even before the end of the year, as the harvest season continues in several production centres. “The success of this absorption is not just a number, but a tangible manifestation of the state’s support for farmers and a shared commitment to achieving national food self-sufficiency,” said Ihsan.
