Jakarta — The Chief Executive of PT Perum Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, has announced that the volume of SPHP (Stabilisasi Pasokan dan Harga Pangan — Food Supply and Price Stabilisation) rice to be distributed in 2026 will no longer reach the initially planned 1.5 million tonnes.

Rizal stated that based on the latest decision by the National Food Agency (Bapanas), the 2026 SPHP rice distribution volume has been reduced to only 860,000 tonnes.

“Approximately 860,000 tonnes. So it’s not like the initial plan of 1.5 million tonnes — 1.5 million tonnes initially, but now only around 860,000 tonnes,” Rizal said when met at Bulog’s Jakarta office on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

In distributing SPHP rice, Bulog follows policies set by the government. Whereas in 2025 SPHP rice distribution was halted in February, March, and April due to the harvest season, in 2026 distribution will continue throughout the year.

However, in rice-producing regions, the volume of SPHP distributed has been reduced. “However, when it is not the harvest season, sales volumes will return to normal circumstances,” Rizal explained.

Rizal, a retired three-star TNI general, stated that SPHP rice will be distributed throughout the year. Regarding the volume distributed during Ramadhan, Rizal had not yet recorded specific figures but noted that Bulog has distributed the subsidised rice to the maximum extent possible.

Bulog has even organised cheap market operations together with other ministries and institutions such as the TNI and National Police. “What is the purpose? To stabilise prices in the field so that people can purchase at affordable rates,” Rizal said.

Earlier, at the start of last year, the government agreed to target SPHP rice distribution throughout 2026 at 1.5 million tonnes, with distribution to continue uninterrupted. “Subsequently, we also discussed distribution matters here, namely regarding the distribution of 1.5 million tonnes of SPHP rice going forward, which we will implement as an ongoing strategy throughout the year,” Rizal said following a National Working Meeting (Rakernas) at Bulog’s Jakarta office on Sunday, 11 January 2026.
