State logistics agency Perum Bulog has put forward a new idea to curb the increase in premium rice prices, which have shown an upward trend in various regions over recent months. One proposed measure is the introduction of the Beraskita Premium programme as an instrument for price stabilisation in the market.

Perum Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani stated that the proposal has been presented at a government meeting and is currently awaiting further inter-ministerial discussion and official approval.

“We are actually only proposing to create Beraskita Premium. Because premium rice is currently rising somewhat, in order to stabilise premium rice, Beraskita Premium must exist,” Rizal said when met at the Coordinating Ministry for Food office in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/6/2026).

According to Rizal, the supply and price conditions for medium-grade rice remain under control. Therefore, the government’s attention is now more directed towards premium rice, which is experiencing price pressure at the consumer level.

He proposed that Beraskita Premium adopt a pattern similar to the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) programme. The difference is that while SPHP has targeted medium-grade rice, the new programme would focus on the premium rice segment.

“Our medium rice is safe and stable, it is only the premium rice that has increased somewhat. Earlier I gave a suggestion in the meeting to create a Beraskita Premium programme, like SPHP rice. The current SPHP is medium rice, so the hope is that later there will be Beraskita Premium,” he said.

In the initial proposal submitted by Bulog, the price of Beraskita Premium is set at Rp14,900 per kilogramme. This figure is equivalent to the price of SPHP rice currently circulating in the community. However, Rizal emphasised that the proposal has not yet become a government decision.

“I have only submitted a suggestion, it has not been approved. The hope is that it can be approved so that all prices can be stabilised,” he said.

Bulog hopes that discussions on the programme can be completed immediately so that price stabilisation measures can be swiftly implemented.

“As soon as possible, so that the public remains calm, and there is no unnecessary commotion like this,” he stated.

Bulog’s proposal emerged amidst a trend of rising rice prices still recorded by Statistics Indonesia (BPS). Data for May 2026 shows the average price of rice at the mill level reached Rp13,765 per kg, up 0.58% compared to April 2026’s level of Rp13,685 per kg. Year-on-year, the increase reached 8.10%.
