BULOG Procures 3.5 Million Tonnes of Rice Equivalent, Nears National Target
State logistics agency Perum BULOG has recorded domestic procurement of 3.5 million tonnes of rice equivalent as of 24 July 2026, representing approximately 87 per cent of the national target of 4 million tonnes. The achievement marks a significant milestone in strengthening national food security and supporting the realisation of sustainable food self-sufficiency.
Perum BULOG President Director, Lieutenant General TNI (Ret.) Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, expressed gratitude for the achievement. He noted that the procurement success was inseparable from the synergy and collaboration of all stakeholders working in an integrated manner from the harvest period through to the absorption of grain and rice across various regions.
“Alhamdulillah, as of 24 July 2026, procurement of rice equivalent from domestic harvests has reached 3.5 million tonnes. This achievement is the result of hard work and synergy from all parties, from farmers, agricultural extension workers, Babinsa, Bhabinkamtibmas, BULOG partners, regional governments, to the central government. The optimally established collaboration serves as a strong foundation in realising sustainable food self-sufficiency,” said Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani in a statement on Saturday (25/7/2026).
He added that with the procurement trend continuing to rise, BULOG is optimistic the 4 million tonne procurement target will be achieved soon. This achievement is believed to further strengthen the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) stock while serving as tangible proof that Indonesia is on the right track towards realising sustainable food self-sufficiency in 2026. “BULOG is optimistic the 4 million tonne target will be reached shortly. This is not merely a numerical achievement, but a tangible manifestation of shared success in strengthening national food independence. We believe that with the support of all parties, the aspiration of sustainable food self-sufficiency will grow stronger and can be optimally realised by the end of September 2026,” he added.
The President Director also stressed that after the 4 million tonne procurement target is met, BULOG will not stop absorbing grain and rice from domestic farmers’ harvests. Instead, BULOG will continue to optimise absorption according to national production availability as part of efforts to maintain grain price stability at the farmer level, improve farmer welfare, and strengthen national food reserves. “BULOG’s commitment is to always be present for farmers. Even after the target is reached, we will continue to absorb domestic harvests to the maximum extent possible in accordance with government assignments and available capacity. This step is important to keep grain prices favourable at the farmer level, improve farmer welfare, and enlarge the Government Rice Reserve as a key instrument for maintaining national food stability,” he asserted.
Going forward, Perum BULOG will continue to strengthen coordination with all stakeholders to ensure the harvest absorption process runs optimally in various production centres. With the support of all elements of the nation, BULOG is optimistic that sustainable food self-sufficiency can be maintained as a foundation for a more independent and sovereign Indonesia in the food sector.
