We hope that through this visit, it can ignite the spirit of farmers to increase production and productivity of their crops.

Parigi, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Prihasto Setyanto, Director of Procurement at Perum Bulog, has asked farmers and milling partners in Central Sulawesi to maintain paddy quality as part of the consistent absorption of paddy in the region.

“Farmers and milling partners play a strategic role in accelerating the large-scale absorption of rice to achieve food self-sufficiency,” said Prihasto Setyanto during his inspection of paddy absorption in Central Sulawesi on Tuesday.

During the visit, he spoke with several farmers and rice mill owners in Sienjo Village, Parigi Moutong Regency, while disseminating President Prabowo’s directives on sustainable food self-sufficiency through concrete actions in paddy absorption across the country.

He praised the paddy quality in Sienjo, but noted that rice milling needs to improve technical methods to produce the best quality paddy.

He stated that Bulog is committed to optimising the acceleration of absorbing farmers’ production by covering paddy-producing areas.

Nationally, the Indonesian Government targets paddy absorption of 4 million tons equivalent to rice by 2026, so Perum Bulog, as the institution tasked with managing food logistics, has instructed its regional offices (kanwil) in each province to move quickly to realise that target.

“I ask the Bulog Central Sulawesi Regional Office to conduct massive procurement; production centre areas must be entered, because every region has been given a target,” said Prihasto.

The regulation emphasises absorption with good food quality so that government rice reserves can be used in the long term.

“Paddy quality remains a priority in food procurement. We also ask the Central Sulawesi Regional Office to educate farmers so that rice is harvested at the right age to maintain production quality,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bulog Central Sulawesi Regional Office, Jusri, stated that they continue to take action through strategic visits to absorption centres.
