Bulog opens warehouse access as public education facility
State logistics firm Perum Bulog is committed to providing the widest possible access to its warehouses for the public, including universities, as an educational tool on the management of the Government Rice Reserve (CBP).
“Bulog warehouses are open as educational facilities so the public can see for themselves that the national rice stock is well maintained. The full condition of the warehouse here in Sunter also reflects the situation in Bulog warehouses across various regions,” said Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani in an official statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Rizal personally led the reception of an academic visit by cross-faculty students from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) at the Bulog Sunter Warehouse in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Monday (29/6). The visit was part of Bulog’s effort to open educational spaces for academics regarding the management of the CBP as a strategic instrument in safeguarding national food security.
During the visit, the students received explanations on the governance of rice storage in Bulog warehouses, from the receiving process and quality control to the storage system that ensures the rice maintains its quality. The group was also invited to visit the Bulog Rice Processing Centre (SPB) to see firsthand the rice processing operations, from cleaning, polishing, and packaging to becoming ready-to-consume rice products that meet quality standards.
Rizal said the introduction to the Rice Processing Centre is expected to provide students with an understanding of the importance of the food downstream process carried out by Bulog. Furthermore, Bulog is also opening opportunities for cooperation with universities through research, technology development, and innovation in the food sector to support the strengthening of national food security.
On the occasion, Rizal also conveyed that as of 29 June 2026, the realisation of rice procurement had reached more than 80 percent of the 2026 target, or above 3.2 million tonnes. Meanwhile, the Government Rice Reserve stock managed by Bulog has currently reached approximately 5.4 million tonnes, the highest stock in Indonesia’s history. This achievement is tangible proof of the successful strengthening of the national food reserve while supporting the government’s efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency.
Through this activity, Bulog hopes that more academics and members of the public will understand Bulog’s strategic role in maintaining national food availability. The synergy between Bulog and universities is expected to be continuously strengthened through various collaborations that encourage the birth of innovation and development in the food sector to realise sustainable Indonesian food security.
