Medan (ANTARA) - Perum Bulog’s North Sumatra Regional Office states that the realisation of shelled maize absorption in the region has reached 1,989 tonnes from January to 4 April 2026. “The absorption of 1,989 tonnes of shelled maize was carried out in several areas in North Sumatra,” said the Regional Head of Perum Bulog North Sumatra, Budi Cahyanto, in Medan on Sunday. Budi stated that the absorption was conducted, among others, in Deli Serdang Regency, Padang Lawas Regency, Dairi Regency, and Batu Bara Regency. Furthermore, he added that absorption potential remains available in Karo Regency, Dairi Regency, and Pakpak Bharat Regency. “From the absorption in various areas, we now have around 4,000 tonnes of maize stock in the warehouse, sufficient to meet livestock feed needs,” he said. To that end, Budi stated that his side has reported to the centre so that the distribution of maize under the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation Programme (SPHP) to laying hen farmers can be carried out. “We are just waiting for instructions from the central government to distribute SPHP maize to laying hen farmers in this region,” he said. According to him, the region is a centre for laying hen farmers supplying egg needs to the North Sumatra market.
