Bulog Lampung builds 120-tonne capacity rice milling unit in East Lampung

Perum Bulog’s Lampung Regional Office has begun building a Rice Milling Unit (RMU) with a grain drying capacity of 120 tonnes in East Lampung Regency to support the strengthening of regional food self-sufficiency. “East Lampung Regency is one of the main food barns in Lampung Province with enormous rice production potential. Through the construction of this RMU with a drying capacity of 120 tonnes of grain, we hope the post-harvest processing will become more modern and efficient,” said Rindo Safutra, Regional Head of Perum Bulog’s Lampung Regional Office, in Bandarlampung on Wednesday. He added that the RMU would help optimise the absorption of farmers’ grain, maintain rice quality, strengthen the Government Rice Reserve, and reinforce the supply chain. “The presence of the RMU, with a milling capacity of six hours per tonne, will also provide market certainty for farmers while increasing the added value of their harvests. We hope the construction of this facility proceeds smoothly so that its benefits can be felt immediately by farmers, the community, and all stakeholders in the food sector,” he said. The RMU construction in East Lampung Regency is part of Perum Bulog’s post-harvest infrastructure strengthening programme in Lampung Province, which will be implemented in two locations. East Lampung Regency was chosen as one of the sites because it is one of the largest rice production centres in Lampung Province with high development potential. “The facility is designed with a dryer capacity of 120 tonnes of grain and is targeted to begin operations by mid-2027. Today we are starting the construction process after the permits were completed,” he said. The RMU in East Lampung Regency occupies approximately six hectares of land, and there are plans to build one warehouse unit in Pekalongan, East Lampung Regency, whose operations will later fall under Bulog’s Metro branch. “Today, together with the East Lampung Regency Government, Bulog officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Provision of Support from the East Lampung Regency Government to Support the Enhancement of National Food Security in East Lampung Regency,” he added. The signing is a strategic step in supporting the construction of the Rice Milling Unit in East Lampung Regency as an implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 14 of 2026 concerning the Acceleration of Post-Harvest Infrastructure Development. “This memorandum of understanding forms an important foundation for the realisation of modern and integrated post-harvest infrastructure development in Lampung Province. It is a crucial initial step in supporting the RMU construction in East Lampung Regency and strengthening the national food ecosystem. Local government support is a key factor in ensuring post-harvest infrastructure development can proceed more quickly, effectively, and provide broad benefits to the community,” he said. According to him, East Lampung Regency holds a strategic position as one of the national food barns, so the RMU construction will have a significant impact on strengthening the food sector in Lampung Province. East Lampung Regent Ela Siti Nurmayah added, “We express our gratitude to Perum Bulog’s Lampung Regional Office for its commitment to building the Rice Milling Unit in East Lampung Regency. The presence of this facility will be a strategic step in strengthening sustainable food security, increasing the added value of farmers’ harvests, and driving regional economic growth.” She said the East Lampung Regency Government is ready to provide full support so that the RMU construction proceeds smoothly and quickly delivers benefits to the community, particularly farmers in East Lampung.
