Jakarta (ANTARA) - Perum Badan Urusan Logistik (Bulog) Kantor Wilayah Jakarta and Banten educated students from SMK Hang Tuah 1 Kelapa Gading and SMA Negeri 21 Jakarta Timur about food security through an eduwisata programme at the Bulog Kelapa Gading Warehouse Complex on Wednesday.

“This eduwisata is expected to provide an overview to the students regarding Bulog’s operational activities in carrying out its role in managing the government’s food reserves,” said the Head of Bulog for the DKI Jakarta and Banten Region, Taufan Akib, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He stated that this programme is also a strategic step for Bulog to enhance synergy with educational institutions in increasing students’ knowledge about food and the government’s role in ensuring national food security.

He added that this activity is part of efforts to promote literacy among the nation’s youth, to foster awareness of the importance of food.

He further explained that this eduwisata serves as a medium for knowledge about food security, while also providing understanding of the importance of food self-sufficiency to achieve national food security.

“With the available rice reserve stocks in the Bulog warehouse, it gives the students an idea that the presence of the state in ensuring food availability for the community is important,” he said.

He added that this programme provides positive value for Bulog’s DKI Jakarta and Banten Regional Office by opening up space for interaction with educational institutions in developing students’ knowledge and insights.

“Especially to build literacy regarding the importance of food for the nation’s food security,” he said.

Meanwhile, the accompanying teacher from SMA Negeri 21 Jakarta Timur, Suyatmi, said this is the first experience for the children, which is good for enhancing their knowledge, especially regarding the importance of food security.

She stated that the students not only observed Bulog’s operational activities but were also given explanations about the storage, management, and maintenance of food commodities, particularly rice, in the Bulog Kelapa Gading Warehouse.

According to her, the eduwisata experience was utilised by the students to delve deeper into the process of rice reception to distribution to the public carried out by Bulog.

“The students conducted interactive question-and-answer sessions directly with warehouse staff and processing officers at the Bulog Warehouse,” she said.

A student from SMA Negeri 21, Rizky, admitted that it was the first time seeing rice stacks this high, with a large stock of rice.

“I am happy with this opportunity,” he said.
