BULOG Director Emphasises the Importance of Labour's Struggle in Maintaining Food Security
The Director of Perum BULOG, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, affirmed that the spirit of hard work, courage, and dedication inherited from labour activists must serve as inspiration for all of BULOG in carrying out its national duties.
“The struggle of labour is a vital foundation in national development. This spirit also serves as the driving force for BULOG to continue to be present in maintaining food stability, ensuring the availability of rice, and protecting the interests of the Indonesian people and farmers,” said Rizal in a statement on Friday, 15 May 2026.
This was conveyed during a visit to the labour struggle memorial area, marked by the presence of a statue of Marsinah, a figure known as a symbol of the struggle for workers’ rights in Indonesia. For BULOG, the spirit of Marsinah is not just a historical record, but a reminder that dedication and courage in fighting for the interests of the people must continue to be upheld.
As a strategic state-owned food company, BULOG has an important role in maintaining the balance between the interests of producers and consumers. Through the absorption of rice and paddy from farmers, food distribution, and the management of the Government Rice Reserve, BULOG helps ensure that the results of the work of farmers and workers in the food sector receive optimal protection.
Rizal added that all of BULOG’s employees have a moral responsibility to continue this spirit of struggle through real work, professionalism, and the best possible service to the community.
“Food security is not just about stock and distribution, but also about siding with the people. The spirit of struggle of labour activists and figures like Ibu Marsinah serves as a reminder that every job done sincerely will bring great benefits to the nation,” he added.
Furthermore, this moment also serves as a reflection that the struggle to achieve the welfare of the people requires the collaboration of all elements of the nation, including workers, farmers, the government, and state-owned food companies like BULOG, which continue to be committed to supporting the realisation of sustainable food self-sufficiency.
