Bulog CEO States Malaysia Requests Import of 200,000 Tonnes of Indonesian Rice
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Perum Bulog’s Director General Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani disclosed a request from Malaysia to import rice from Indonesia, amounting to around 200,000 tonnes, as a new export opportunity for the country.
Speaking after the Meeting to Accelerate the Realisation of Funding for the Absorption of Unmilled Rice Equivalent to Rice at Bulog’s Jakarta Office on Monday, Rizal stated that one of Bulog’s directors has been requested to travel to Malaysia to follow up on the request through further discussions with relevant parties in the destination country.
“Yesterday, one of our directors was also asked to go to Malaysia because Malaysia has a request to import rice (from Indonesia) of no less than 200,000 tonnes,” said Rizal.
According to him, the requested volume of 200,000 tonnes is considered substantial and indicates the open potential for the Indonesian rice export market.
Currently, Rizal continued, Bulog is still in the exploration stage to ensure supply readiness as well as a cooperation scheme that can provide optimal benefits for both parties.
He hopes this export opportunity can be realised, so it not only strengthens Indonesia’s position in the international market but also adds value to the management of the national rice reserves.
“This is quite a large amount. Now it’s being explored, hopefully it can provide export opportunities to our neighbouring country,” said Rizal.
On that occasion, Rizal also reported the achievement of absorbing farmers’ unmilled rice domestically up to 13 April 2026, which has reached around 48.7 percent or equivalent to 1.9 million tonnes from the target of 4 million tonnes equivalent to rice.
According to him, this achievement shows significant progress in efforts to meet the national rice absorption target set by the government for 2026.
Meanwhile, Bulog’s total rice stock up to the same date is recorded at around 4.727 million tonnes, stored in various warehouses of the state-owned food company.
Rizal projects that within the next one week to ten days, the government’s rice reserve stock (CBP) has the potential to break through the 5 million tonne mark along with the ongoing acceleration of absorption.
