Jakarta (ANTARA) - Perum Bulog’s President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani stated that the total budget for absorbing rice paddy up to maize feed, in accordance with the government’s assignment, reaches Rp68.6 trillion as support for strengthening national food security.

“Total budget for absorbing rice paddy, then soybeans, and maize is Rp68.6 trillion,” Rizal said after the Meeting to Accelerate the Realisation of Funding for Rice Paddy Absorption Equivalent to Rice at Bulog’s Jakarta Office on Monday.

Rizal explained that the budget is used to support the government’s assignment in optimally absorbing domestic farmers’ produce to maintain national food supply stability without imports.

On that occasion, Bulog also reported that rice absorption achievement up to 13 April 2026 has reached around 48.7 percent of the government’s target of 4 million tonnes.

This achievement is equivalent to around 1.9 million tonnes of rice successfully absorbed throughout the ongoing period from early 2026 to mid-April.

Meanwhile, Bulog’s rice stock is recorded at 4.727 million tonnes and is projected to exceed 5 million tonnes in the near future along with the acceleration of rice paddy absorption from farmers.

This absorption policy refers to Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 4 of 2026 on the Procurement and Management of Domestic Rice Paddy/Rice as well as the Distribution of Government Rice Reserves for 2026-2029.

In that policy, the government sets a 2026 target for rice paddy equivalent absorption of 4 million tonnes, an increase from the previous year’s target of 3 million tonnes. Bulog targets that this year’s absorption target can be achieved by the end of July.

The government also sets a government purchase price (HPP) for rice paddy at Rp6,500 per kilogram (kg) to maintain price stability and improve farmers’ welfare across Indonesia.

In addition to rice, Bulog also receives the assignment to absorb 1 million tonnes of dry shelled maize to strengthen reserves of other strategic commodities.

This assignment is regulated in Presidential Instruction Number 3 of 2026, which sets the maize purchase price at Rp5,500 per kilogram.

In that regulation, the absorbed maize must meet harvest age criteria with a moisture content of between 18 and 20 percent in accordance with the quality standards set by the government.

Bulog records that up to 5 April 2026, the realisation of dry shelled maize procurement by the state-owned food company has reached 131,673 tonnes as part of efforts to meet the national target.

Rizal emphasised the government’s commitment to keeping national food availability safe and stable, in line with Prabowo Subianto’s directives in facing global geopolitical challenges.

Previously, the Head of the National Food Agency as well as Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman welcomed the issuance of the Inpres for rice and maize procurement, which is one proof of President Prabowo’s commitment to protecting domestic farmers.
