Bulog CEO: Rice equivalent grain absorption surpasses 3.2 million tonnes

Perum Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani has revealed that grain absorption from farmers has reached more than 3.2 million tonnes of rice equivalent as of 13 July 2026, marking the highest achievement to strengthen the government’s rice reserve (CBP). He explained that the absorption realisation had reached 83.2 percent of the national target of four million tonnes of rice equivalent set by the government for the whole of 2026. “Alhamdulillah, rice absorption as of today has reached 83.2 percent of the 4 million tonne target. That means from 4 million tonnes, the achievement is 83 percent. So it has reached 3.2 million tonnes,” said Rizal after a Coordination Meeting on the Preparation for Premium Government Rice Reserve Processing in Jakarta on Monday. According to him, this achievement is a significant milestone because it has surpassed the absorption realisation throughout 2025, which only reached around 3.1 million tonnes of rice equivalent over a full year. He assessed that the success in exceeding the previous year’s achievement by mid-July demonstrates the effectiveness of the grain absorption strategy as well as high production and farmer participation in supporting national food reserves. In addition to the increasing absorption, Rizal said the rice stock controlled by Bulog has now reached approximately 5.4 million tonnes, thereby strengthening the availability of the government’s rice reserve. Of the total stock, around two million tonnes will be processed into Beras Kita Premium and Beras Kita Medium to support the food commodity price stabilisation programme for the public. This processing will simultaneously reduce the rice stock in Bulog warehouses from around 5.4 million tonnes to approximately 3.4 million tonnes, ensuring optimal storage capacity. Nevertheless, Rizal noted that several regions have recorded 100 percent absorption achievement against their respective regional targets, including East Java, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), South Sulawesi, and several other regencies/cities. He cited East Java, which had an absorption target of around 970,000 tonnes of rice equivalent, as having fully met that target by 13 July 2026. According to Rizal, the success of several regions in reaching their targets more quickly opens up the possibility of absorption realisation exceeding the target by the end of the year, as the harvest season is still ongoing. He affirmed that this achievement was inseparable from the support of various parties and rice milling partners who assist in the grain absorption and rice processing through a contract manufacturing scheme. He is optimistic that the success of grain absorption, the distribution of the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation programme, and food aid will continue to improve in line with the synergy between the government, Bulog, and business actors.
