Bulog CEO: Rice equivalent grain absorption surpasses 3.2 million tonnes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Director of state logistics firm Perum Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, revealed that paddy absorption from farmers has reached more than 3.2 million tonnes in rice equivalent as of 13 July 2026, the highest achievement to date in strengthening the government rice reserves (CBP).
He explained that this realisation has reached 83.2 per cent of the national target of four million tonnes in rice equivalent set by the government for 2026.
“Alhamdulillah, rice absorption as of today has reached 83.2 per cent of the four-million-tonne target. That means that of the four million tonnes, 83 per cent has been achieved. So it has already reached 3.2 million tonnes,” said Rizal after attending the Coordination Meeting on the Preparation of Government Rice Reserve (CBP) Premium Processing in Jakarta on Monday.
According to him, this achievement is an important milestone as it has surpassed the total absorption recorded throughout 2025, which only reached around 3.1 million tonnes in rice equivalent over the course of a full year.
He believes that exceeding the previous year’s total by mid-July demonstrates the effectiveness of the paddy absorption strategy, as well as high production levels and strong farmer participation in supporting national food reserves.
Beyond the steadily rising absorption, Rizal said the rice stock held by Bulog has now reached around 5.4 million tonnes, further strengthening the availability of government rice reserves.
Of that total stock, around two million tonnes will be processed into Beras Kita Premium and Beras Kita Medium to support the food commodity price stabilisation programme for the public.
This processing will also reduce Bulog’s warehouse rice stock from around 5.4 million tonnes to roughly 3.4 million tonnes, keeping storage capacity at an optimal level.
Nevertheless, Rizal noted that several regions have already recorded 100 per cent achievement of their respective regional targets, including East Java, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), South Sulawesi, and a number of other regencies and cities.
He cited East Java as an example: with an absorption target of around 970,000 tonnes in rice equivalent, the province managed to fully meet that target by 13 July 2026.
According to Rizal, the success of several regions in reaching their targets early opens up the opportunity for total absorption to exceed the target by the end of the year, as the absorption season is still ongoing.
He stressed that this achievement would not have been possible without the support of various parties and rice milling partners who have assisted the paddy absorption process through to rice processing under a contract manufacturing cooperation scheme.
He is optimistic that the success of paddy absorption, the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation programme, and food aid distribution will continue to improve in line with the synergy between the government, Bulog, and business actors.
