The President Director of Perum Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, has confirmed the company’s readiness to distribute an additional 1 million tonnes of rice under the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) Programme until March 2027 to maintain food availability for the public.

Rizal stated that the company had previously requested an additional 400,000 tonnes of SPHP rice for the allocation period from September to December 2026, as the current stock from the 828,000-tonne quota has dwindled to approximately 80,000 tonnes in Bulog warehouses.

“Our actual requirement is only for September, October, November, and December. However, following directives from the Coordinating Minister and the Minister of Agriculture, we must account for January and February 2027, as the harvest will not occur until March 2027,” Rizal confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The increase in the SPHP rice allocation was agreed upon during a Limited Coordination Meeting on the Management and Distribution of Government Food Reserves (CPP) between the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, and the Minister of Agriculture and Head of the National Food Agency, Andi Amran Sulaiman.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN), Tedi Bharata, and other relevant parties in Jakarta.

According to Rizal, the additional allocation is intended to meet public needs from September to December 2026, particularly as the Christmas and New Year period is projected to see an increase in demand.

“This additional 1 million tonnes of SPHP rice serves as mitigation for the end of the year. With Christmas and New Year approaching, demand will rise. We are anticipating this by increasing the SPHP rice supply in accordance with the directives from the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs,” explained Rizal.

Furthermore, the distribution of the one million tonnes of SPHP rice will continue until the start of the harvest in March 2027, as January and February fall outside the harvest season.

Bulog has ensured that SPHP rice will be distributed through various channels, including ‘Rumah Pangan Kita’ (Our Food House), SP2KP, and all other available distribution networks.

Ahmad Rizal noted that the current distribution of SPHP rice has reached 92 per cent of the 828,000-tonne quota, leaving a remaining balance of approximately 80,000 tonnes.
