Bullying case: Komnas PA highlights supervision of Central Jakarta park

The National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA) DKI Jakarta has raised concerns over the safety and supervision systems at Taman Kramat Pulo in Senen, Central Jakarta, the scene of a bullying case involving a six-year-old child with the initials MWP. Cornelia Agatha, Chair of KomnasPA DKI Jakarta, stated on Saturday that beyond focusing on law enforcement against the perpetrators, her party is also demanding accountability from the public facility’s managers regarding environmental supervision and security. “We plan to coordinate with the park’s management, because in my opinion the place is not safe. It is supposed to be a children’s playground, so why is it unsafe?” she said. She criticised several facilities within the park deemed hazardous, one of which is the poorly arranged electrical poles. According to her, a public space cannot be claimed as a child-friendly facility if its infrastructure and supervision systems neglect children’s safety. “Of course, if a park has the potential to harm children, it means it is not child-friendly. Therefore, a total evaluation and immediate improvements are needed so that similar incidents do not happen in the future,” Cornelia said. In addition to demanding improvements from the park’s management, Komnas PA DKI also reminded parents to treat this case as a critical alarm regarding parenting. Previously, a six-year-old child from Kramat Urban Village, Central Jakarta, fell into a coma after allegedly being persecuted by two teenagers. The victim’s grandmother, Linda Reselin, stated on Wednesday (10/6) that her grandson, MWP, was in a coma and treated at RSCM after being electrocuted while being bullied by two teenagers. “Now my grandson is conscious, but he is still afraid when meeting people,” Linda told reporters. According to her, the abuse occurred on Sunday (7/6). Based on CCTV footage, two teenagers were seen bringing the boy and pressing him against an electrical pole. Unfortunately, the electrical pole inside the Taman Kramat Pulo area was leaking current, causing the victim to be shocked, convulse, and then lose consciousness. “I saw the CCTV inside the park. In the recording, my grandson was seen being persecuted by two individuals known by the initials LNG and RVN. My grandson was dragged and taken to a pole which apparently had an electrical current, causing my grandson to be electrocuted,” she said.
