The Buleleng Transport Department (Dishub) has commenced safety inspections, known as ramp checks, of public transport vehicles ahead of the 2026 Eid holiday. The inspections are designed to ensure that buses used by the public during the holiday exodus are roadworthy.

Gede Gunawan Adnyana Putra, Head of Buleleng Transport Department, stated that the ramp checks are being conducted pursuant to a circular from the Director-General of Land Transport (Dirjen Hubdat) at the Ministry of Transportation regarding the implementation of traffic safety and road transport inspections during the 2026 Eid holiday season.

“This ramp check is different from the regular vehicle inspection (KIR). Whilst KIR inspections are conducted periodically every six months, ramp checks are specifically implemented for vehicles used during the Eid holiday transport season,” Gunawan explained on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Following these regulations, Buleleng Transport Department has sent circulars to bus companies in its jurisdiction since 3 March 2026, inviting them to participate in the free vehicle inspection programme. Several buses with routes to Surabaya and other East Java destinations have already undergone ramp checks, with all inspected vehicles declared roadworthy.

During inspections, officers examine various critical vehicle components, including the braking system, suspension components, lighting, turn signals, windscreen wipers, and administrative documentation. Braking system inspection is prioritised as the primary focus, given its significant potential to prevent accidents.

“The brake inspection uses computer-based equipment to ensure balanced braking between the right and left wheels, guaranteeing accuracy of results,” Gunawan clarified.

Buses that pass the ramp check receive a special sticker affixed to the vehicle door, indicating compliance with safety requirements. Buleleng Transport Department is also offering private vehicle owners the opportunity to have their vehicles inspected to ensure they remain safe before undertaking long-distance journeys during the Eid period.

In addition to vehicle inspections, driver health will also be monitored at Eid holiday checkpoints through blood pressure checks and urine tests.
