Buleleng Students Raise Rp 10.8 Million in Donations for Flores Earthquake

A number of student organisations in Buleleng, Bali, raised funds to help residents affected by the earthquake in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Wednesday (19/8/2026). The humanitarian effort succeeded in collecting donations amounting to Rp 10,810,500.

Chairman of PMII Buleleng Fauzi Hariri said the fundraising was carried out as a form of student concern for the people of Flores affected by the disaster. The main earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, and a series of aftershocks caused damage to infrastructure and made it difficult for aid to reach several affected areas.

“Our aim is to help the communities affected by the earthquake disaster in Flores. Because the impact is quite significant, including damage to infrastructure and difficult access for aid,” said Fauzi.

The fundraising involved a number of student organisations under the Cipayung Plus Buleleng umbrella, namely KMHDI, PMII, HMI, IMM, and GMKI. The action also involved the internal campus organisation Al-Hikmah Undiksha as well as regional student organisations (Ormada), such as the Lamongan Students Association (Ikamala), the Flores Students Association (Himflor), and the Sulawesi Students Forum (Formasi).

The involvement of Himflor served as a form of solidarity among students from Flores residing in Buleleng. Several members of the organisation even come from areas affected by the earthquake.

The fundraising was conducted at four locations: the Undiksha Central Campus traffic lights, the Penimbangan Beach traffic lights, Singaraja City Park, and the Buleleng Festival (Bulfest) area.

From the action, the students managed to collect Rp 10,810,500. The funds consisted of Rp 10,210,500 in cash donations and Rp 600,000 through QRIS.

Fauzi said all donations would be channelled directly to recipients in Flores through bank transfer. The funds will be used to meet the urgent needs of affected residents, including food supplies and building materials to repair residents’ homes.

“The donations will be transferred directly to the recipients in Flores. They will be used to purchase urgent necessities such as basic foodstuffs and building materials or tools for repairing residents’ homes,” he said.

Although initially planned to last one day, the students are open to holding further fundraising. The action will be carried out if conditions on the ground still require assistance.

“If conditions on the ground still require assistance, we are ready to carry out follow-up fundraising,” said Fauzi.

Meanwhile, Chairwoman of KMHDI Buleleng Komang Dia Damayanti said public enthusiasm for the action was quite high. According to her, the large amount of donations collected demonstrates the public’s concern for the people of Flores affected by the disaster.

“Today’s activity is a very positive one and received a good response from the public. This is proven by donations reaching Rp 10 million, even more,” she said.

Damayanti said the support came not only from the people of Buleleng but also from residents passing through the various fundraising locations. She said the action also served as a momentum for students to apply the values of humanity and solidarity towards others.

“As Hindu students, we are realising Hindu values, particularly harmony among human beings. This small amount of assistance is hoped to ease the burden of our brothers and sisters in Flores,” she said.

Damayanti added that the funds raised are targeted to be handed over to the affected communities soon. The distribution will be carried out no later than two days after the funds are collected.

“These donations will be handed over soon, no later than two days from now. The distribution will be carried out transparently and we will share the information through social media,” she concluded.
