Buleleng Regency Deploys Health Workers and Ambulances at Petrol Stations
Buleleng, Bali (ANTARA) - The Buleleng Regency Government has placed health workers and ambulances on standby to respond to medical problems among members of the public queuing for fuel at petrol stations.
“If members of the public become exhausted or experience other health problems while queuing for fuel, they can be treated promptly,” Buleleng Regent I Nyoman Sutjidra said after opening a journalism and organisational orientation event hosted by the Buleleng branch of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) on Thursday.
Sutjidra said he had instructed all community health centres serving areas with petrol stations to be ready to assist anyone requiring medical care.
The measure follows reports of people outside Buleleng experiencing health problems, including fainting from exhaustion after queuing for fuel.
Sutjidra said he was concerned about the situation and had asked health officials to prepare for the possibility of similar incidents in Buleleng Regency.
He said health workers and ambulances needed to be ready so that people suffering from exhaustion or other health complaints could receive prompt treatment.
“I think the 20 community health centres we have are capable of covering all 21 petrol stations across Buleleng,” he said.
In addition to putting health services on standby, the Buleleng Regency Government has deployed personnel from the Transportation Agency and the Civil Service Police Unit to help maintain order and a calm atmosphere.
Officials are expected to help ensure that daily activities run smoothly while people queue to buy fuel.
Sutjidra said the local government was continuing to monitor fuel supplies and distribution to ensure that residents’ needs were met.
He urged residents to remain calm and buy fuel according to their needs, so that excessive purchases would not lengthen queues.
“Do not panic and think there is no fuel. Fuel is available, but we need to wait for it to be distributed,” he said.
