Buleleng Government Steps In After Resident Killed by Mob for Chicken Theft in Tabanan
The Buleleng Regency Government has taken steps to support the family of KD, a resident of Sidatapa Village, Banjar District, who was killed by a mob for allegedly stealing a fighting cock in Banjar Dinas Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan. The act of vigilante justice has been widely condemned.
Head of the Buleleng Social Affairs, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (Dinsos P3A), I Putu Kariaman Putra, stated that he visited the family’s home on Sunday (26/7/2026) alongside officials from the Education, Youth and Sports Agency (Disdikpora) and the Banjar Sub-district Head. He reported that the situation at the home was calm, although the family remained in deep mourning.
“We provided attention in the form of basic food supplies and decent clothing for the family,” Kariaman said when contacted. Beyond distributing emergency aid, the Buleleng administration is prioritising the psychological recovery of the victim’s children and ensuring their education continues.
Kariaman noted that the deceased’s family was classified as underprivileged and had been receiving Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT) from the Ministry of Social Affairs. Consequently, the government is striving to ensure that this tragedy does not hinder the future of KD’s children. KD leaves behind a wife and three children, two of whom are still students—one in primary school and one in a vocational secondary school (SMK).
The Buleleng Education, Youth and Sports Agency will seek assistance through the Indonesia Smart Programme (PIP) and is also opening opportunities for educational support through donations. Meanwhile, Dinsos P3A is encouraging the child currently attending SMK to continue their education at the Sekolah Rakyat in Karangasem, where all educational costs are fully covered by the government.
Furthermore, the Buleleng administration will seek economic empowerment assistance for the widow. The family will also be proposed as recipients of the Integrated Prosperous Housing Programme (RST) or home renovation scheme, provided they meet the requirements.
On a separate note, Dinsos P3A Buleleng is paying special attention to the psychological condition of KD’s children. Kariaman said the agency has prepared psychologists to provide support, ensuring that the trauma of the incident does not have a prolonged impact. “Tomorrow we will conduct outreach with a psychologist to assist the children and the family,” Kariaman said. Although the children appear visibly calmer, he stressed that a psychological assessment is still necessary to determine the true extent of the impact. “From the outside, they seem to be returning to normal, but they must be accompanied by a psychologist so it does not become a long-term burden. From that assistance, we can later gauge the level of depression,” he explained.
It was previously reported that the man from Sidatapa Village, Buleleng, with the initials KD, was attacked by a mob after allegedly being caught stealing a fighting cock in Banjar Dinas Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan, in the early hours of Friday (24/7/2026). He was beaten by the mob and died at the scene. The motorcycle he was riding was also set ablaze.
