The commemoration of the Birth of Pancasila should not merely serve as an annual ceremonial agenda. The momentum of 1 June must serve as a reminder for all elements of the nation to continue bringing Pancasila values to life in daily existence.

The Speaker of the West Java DPRD, Buky Wibawa, emphasised that Pancasila is the primary foundation of national and state life, which must be continuously nurtured through real action rather than just being memorised as a historical document.

“Pancasila must be repositioned as the foundation of national life. The values contained within each precept are not enough to simply be understood; they must be implemented in everyday life,” said Buky after attending the 2026 West Java Provincial Level Commemoration of the Birth of Pancasila at Wirotama Field, Bandung, on Monday (1/6/2026).

According to him, the progression of the era—marked by social change, technological advancement, and the dynamics of community life—demands various new approaches to instilling Pancasila values. This ensures that Pancasila remains relevant as a guide for the nation amidst ever-changing challenges.

Buky explained that the implementation of Pancasila values can be reflected in various aspects of community life, ranging from maintaining religious tolerance and upholding humanitarian values to strengthening unity and delivering social justice for all Indonesian people.

He noted that the ongoing issues of intolerance and social inequality serve as a reminder that the task of actualising Pancasila values is not yet fully complete.

“When various problems such as intolerance and forms of social injustice are still found, it serves as an evaluation for us all that the implementation of Panculturally values must continue to be strengthened,” he said.

As a representative institution of the people, the West Java DPRD, Buky continued, is committed to providing spaces for national dialogue and encouraging the creation of policies that support the strengthening of national insight within the community.

In his view, Pancasila needs to be continuously discussed and presented in the public sphere so that it does not merely remain a state symbol, but truly becomes a guide for thinking, behaving, and acting.

“We must continue to discuss Pancasila as the way of life for the Indonesian people. Pancasila values must more frequently become part of public dialogue to remain embedded in the consciousness of the community,” he said.

Through this year’s commemoration of the Birth of Pancasila, Buky hopes that the spirit of unity, tolerance, and mutual cooperation (gotong royong) will become more deeply rooted within the West Java community as a tangible manifestation of practising Pancasila in national and state life.
