Bukit Senggigi in West Lombok Catches Fire, 1 Hectare of Land Scorched

Approximately one hectare of land in the hilly area of Senggigi Village, Batu Layar District, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), caught fire. The flames were successfully extinguished around 30 minutes after officers received the report.

The fire occurred on Saturday (29/8/2026) at around 7.30 pm local time (WITA). The Head of Fire and Rescue (Damkarmat) of West Lombok, Suherman, said the extinguishing process, including cooling, lasted about 30 minutes.

“The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes, including the cooling period,” said Suherman on Saturday (29/8/2026).

Suherman said the West Lombok Damkarmat deployed two Fire Rescue and Prevention (PMK) vehicles and one water supply vehicle to the location. The firefighting effort was also assisted by local residents who were at the scene.

“All thanks to the cooperation with our community around the location who helped together with the fire officers to extinguish the fire,” said Suherman.

Suherman confirmed there were no casualties in the fire. The flames also did not spread to residential areas.

“No residential houses were affected,” he said.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Suherman said local residents suddenly saw flames in the hilly area.

“We asked the community, and they answered that they had already seen the fire burning,” he concluded.
