Building under construction in Kebon Jeruk catches fire

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A fire struck an empty building that was in the process of being constructed in the Kebon Jeruk area, West Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Head of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, Syaiful Kahfi, stated that the fire information was first received after a resident personally visited the Jalan C Fire Station at 2:38 PM WIB.

“The object on fire is an empty building currently under construction. The location is at Jalan Panjang Arteri Kelapa Dua Raya Number 16-20, RT 07/RW 01, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta,” said Syaiful when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.

To extinguish the fire, eight fire engines and 40 personnel were deployed to the scene.

The first firefighting unit was dispatched at 2:39 PM WIB and immediately commenced extinguishing operations.

Thanks to the rapid response of the officers, the spread of the fire was successfully localised by 2:45 PM WIB. Officers then moved into the cooling phase at 3:08 PM WIB to anticipate the emergence of hidden hotspots.

By late afternoon, the situation at the location was reported to be in the cooling process, with the fire classified under the yellow category.

Based on initial estimates from officers on the ground, the area of the building affected by the fire reached approximately 546 square metres.

Although there were no fatalities or injuries resulting from the incident, the exact cause of the fire and the total material losses incurred have not yet been determined.
