Building under construction in Kebon Jeruk catches fire

A fire struck an empty building under construction in the Kebon Jeruk area of West Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon. Head of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department, Syaiful Kahfi, stated that the first report was received when a resident came directly to the Jalan C Fire Post at 2.38 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. “The object on fire is an empty building currently under construction. It is located at Jalan Panjang Arteri Kelapa Dua Raya Number 16-20, RT 07/RW 01, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta,” Syaiful said when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday. To extinguish the fire, eight fire engines with 40 personnel were deployed to the scene. The first unit was dispatched at 2.39 p.m. Western Indonesia Time and immediately began firefighting operations. Thanks to the rapid response, the spread of the fire was successfully localised by 2.45 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. Personnel then entered the cooling phase at 3.08 p.m. Western Indonesia Time to anticipate any hidden hotspots. As of the afternoon, the situation was reported to be in the cooling process with the fire status classified as yellow. Based on initial estimates by officers at the scene, the area of the building affected by the fire reached approximately 546 square metres. Although there were no fatalities or injuries resulting from the incident, the cause of the fire and the total material losses are not yet known.
