MAN 1 Pidie in Aceh Province slaughtered eight cattle and one goat on Thursday (28 May) to build students’ social and religious character. The event took place on the second day of Eid al-Adha 1447H/2026.

This act of mutual care and sharing marks the beginning of instilling a sense of responsibility within the community. It exemplifies the practical education provided by teachers and staff.

Principal Muhammad Thaifuri told Media Indonesia on Monday (25 May): ‘This meaningful act reflects the essence of Prophet Ibrahim’s honesty in keeping his promise and Prophet Ismail’s obedience to divine command.’

Thaifuri explained that the eight cattle and one goat came from contributions by teachers and staff. Each cattle was funded by seven donors, while the single goat was a donation from one individual. Seven of the eight cattle were contributed by teachers and staff, with the eighth coming from student donations to promote the Kurban tradition. The funds were collected through student charity.

‘The fresh meat is distributed to students, particularly those from financially disadvantaged families, as well as non-permanent teachers and school security personnel,’ Thaifuri added. ‘We primarily distribute to the poor, relatives, friends, those who sacrifice, their families, and the school community. While students are a priority, some feel others are more deserving and choose not to take their share, instead giving it to others.’

The annual Kurban ritual at MAN 1 has become a social initiative during Eid al-Adha, from the 10th to 13th of Zulhijjah.

‘We thank the teachers and school community partners for answering the divine call to follow the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail. The success of this Kurban initiative reflects the sincere journey of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings,’ Thaifuri concluded.
