Building Owned by Saung Taraju Faith Group in Tasik Burned by Mob

A building owned by the Saung Taraju Jumamtara (STJ) group was burned by a mob in Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java. This action occurred after allegations emerged that the group had committed suspected religious blasphemy. For context, Saung Taraju Jumamtara is a faith-belief group located in Tasikmalaya Regency. The mob burned the building on Wednesday (1/4/2026) around 20:30 WIB. Jabar Police Public Relations Chief Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan stated that the burning was triggered by the arrival of around 60 people, mostly local residents and religious figures, at the site. “They burned one of the saung used as a 3x4 metre warehouse, causing it to be completely destroyed with estimated losses of around Rp 60 million,” Hendra said in his statement, as reported by detikJabar on Monday (6/4/2026). Based on investigations, the burning was sparked by information from residents about activities by Khobir, the building’s owner and leader of Saung Taraju Jumamtara, on social media. According to police, Khobir is suspected of committing religious blasphemy broadcast live on TikTok. “The cause of the incident was information from residents that Khobir had committed blasphemy by making a TikTok live video with Ester Pasri Alimentari discussing the BB Drum belief stream, which allegedly insulted and demeaned Islam. This ignited a reaction from local residents who felt disturbed by the blasphemy committed by Khobir,” he explained. The incident provoked residents’ anger, leading to the building’s burning. The mob’s actions nearly extended to other buildings but were prevented by Khobir’s brother-in-law, Usep Suhud, along with the Intelligence and Community Guidance Unit officer from Taraju Police Sector who were at the scene.
