Building Legal Awareness and Civic Responsibility in the Digital Era

The development of digital technology has transformed the way society communicates, obtains information, and expresses opinions. Almost every daily activity is now inseparable from the use of the internet and social media. This condition certainly brings many benefits, such as facilitating access to information, broadening horizons, and accelerating communication. However, behind these various conveniences, there are challenges that must be faced together, namely the low awareness of some members of society in using digital media wisely. As Indonesian citizens, every individual has the right to express opinions. However, this right must also be accompanied by the obligation to respect the rights of others and comply with applicable regulations. The dissemination of false information, speech that can trigger conflict, and actions that violate digital ethics can harm many parties. Therefore, it is important for the public to always verify information before sharing it and to use social media responsibly. The values of Pancasila serve as the primary guide in facing the developments of the times. Attitudes of mutual respect, maintaining unity, prioritising deliberation, and upholding social justice need to be applied, including in digital life. By implementing these values, society can create a communication space that is healthy, polite, and mutually respectful despite having differing opinions. In addition, education regarding digital literacy and legal awareness also needs to be continuously improved, especially among the younger generation. An understanding of rights, obligations, and ethics in using technology will help society become wiser in utilising digital developments. A critical attitude towards information is also an important step to prevent the spread of false news and circulating misinformation. Ultimately, creating a safe and comfortable digital environment is not only the responsibility of the government, but also of the entire community. By increasing legal awareness, ethics, and responsibility as citizens, we can realise a more orderly, harmonious social life that reflects the values of Pancasila in daily life.
