Building falls, 3 students crushed

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Education officials expressed their concern yesterday over the collapse of a building that killed three elementary school students last week.

Chief of the provincial office of education and culture Zaini Anwar asked the school's headmaster to provide compensation to the students' families and investigate the incident.

The incident happened when a building adjacent to the SD Negeri 146 elementary school was demolished and hit a class room where a class was in session.

"Those who demolished the building must be held responsible and be brought to court," Zaini told Antara. "If they had cared about others' safety, they would have not demolish the building during class hours," he said. (pan)
