Building collapse kills one

INDONESIA: A still-under-construction building located near a filling station in Medan, North Sumatra, has collapsed, leaving one construction worker dead and 10 others seriously injured.

One of the 10 injured was the owner of the filling station.

Eyewitnesses said the building suddenly collapsed on Friday night as workers were putting the finishing touches to the first floor. The dead worker was crushed by the falling masonry.

Flaws in building's design have been blamed for the accident. The building was to have served as the filling station offices.

Medan Police chief Sr. Comr. Irawan Dahlan said his officers were investigating the case. -- JP
