Building Collapse Forces SDN Kebayoran Lama 09 Students to Relocate
A total of 270 students from SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi in South Jakarta are now conducting their learning activities at the nearby SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11 following damage to their original school building. The Jakarta Provincial Government is set to renovate the collapsed structure, and the school has implemented a shift system to accommodate the pupils.
Kenhayati Dwi Rahmini, Head of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi, stated that all students from grades 1 to 6 are currently using the facilities at SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11. “We are cooperating with SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11. All students are well facilitated, with learning taking place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Western Indonesian Time,” Kenhayati said in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara on Thursday, 23 July 2026.
The adjustment to the learning hours has been carefully calculated to ensure that students’ instructional time meets the required standards. “As for extracurricular activities, we have arranged for them to take place earlier in the morning,” she added.
The incident involving the damage to the school building occurred at the end of 2024, coinciding with the holiday for the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada). Initial information was received from the school guard, prompting the school to immediately relocate teaching and learning activities and ensure no students were directly affected.
Regarding the exact cause of the building damage, as well as plans for consolidation and the repair budget, Kenhayati stressed that these matters fall under the authority of the Jakarta Education Agency. “There is a dedicated team that will analyse the technical causes. The school is only focusing on the learning process so that it is not disrupted and student achievement continues to improve,” she said.
The South Jakarta City Government has paid special attention to this situation. The Mayor of South Jakarta has also inspected the availability of the temporary classrooms being used by the students.
In addition to learning activities, Kenhayati also confirmed that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme continues to be distributed properly to the students every day. “The MBG meals arrive around 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The students eat the MBG meals at 12.30 p.m. before entering class, so everything is well facilitated,” Kenhayati stated.
Previously, the Jakarta Provincial Government decided to rebuild SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi, which has suffered severe damage over the past two years. “Later this afternoon, I will immediately decide when this will be built. And it is clear that for Jakarta, especially for me personally, an education facility in that condition is a real slap in the face,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo in the North Jakarta area on Thursday.
According to him, the construction of the school must be carried out immediately so that the teaching and learning process can proceed comfortably. He had previously discussed the school’s condition in a meeting, but will hold another meeting to finalise the reconstruction plan. “I have ordered that even though the budget is not yet in the APBD or the revised APBD, we can use available funds, one of which is the KLB fund. So, I will make a decision immediately,” Pramono stated.
