The retail industry is currently undergoing a transformation, shifting from an approach centred on expanding physical store networks towards a more integrated methodology. Founder and CEO of Doran Group, Jhonny Thio Doran, believes that the future of retail is no longer determined solely by the number of outlets a company owns.

According to him, retail companies are defined by their ability to build business ecosystems that connect various elements comprehensively. He stated that retailers seeking to survive amid industry changes need to consider strategies that extend far beyond simply opening new stores.

“Retail is no longer just about opening new stores. Future retail is about building an ecosystem that connects products, distribution, technology, and community in one integrated experience,” said Jhonny in a press statement in Jakarta on Sunday, 15 March 2026.

Through its technology brand JETE, Doran Group is developing an ecosystem-based approach that integrates products, distribution, technology, and consumer communities. All of this is packaged within a single interconnected business framework.

Transforming retail stores

Doran Group, based in Surabaya, East Java, has evolved into one of Indonesia’s technology consumer retail ecosystems. The company operates a network of more than 150 retail outlets spread across various cities, supported by national distribution and digital sales channels.
