Bugis Makassar Merchants Meeting 2026: A Major Momentum for the Sulsel Diaspora Economy
Makassar — The Central Board of the South Sulawesi Family Harmony (BPP KKSS) will hold the 26th Bugis Makassar Merchants Meeting (PSBM), scheduled for 25–26 March 2026 at Hotel Claro Makassar.
This event is expected to be attended by more than 1,000 merchants and entrepreneurs from South Sulawesi hailing from various regions in Indonesia and abroad.
The Acting Chairman of BPP KKSS, Prof. Dr. Andi Muhammad Syakir, stated that this merchants’ meeting represents a crucial opportunity to strengthen the economic networks of the resilient Bugis Makassar diaspora across various business sectors.
“This meeting is a momentum for consolidating the economic strength of Bugis Makassar merchants to promote investment and enhance contributions to national development,” he said.
According to him, the Bugis Makassar Merchants Meeting is not merely a gathering for socialising, but also a space for deliberation or tudang sipulung, where experiences are shared, business solutions are discussed, business ideas are exchanged, and brotherhood among Bugis Makassar merchants is strengthened.
Further, Prof. Syakir explained that PSBM XXVI in 2026 will feature various activities, including social programmes, presentations of KKSS’s one-year work achievements, the development of KKSS’s flagship school, and business meetings among entrepreneurs.
He also emphasised that the role of the South Sulawesi Family Harmony going forward will not only be vertical but will also be strengthened horizontally through economic collaboration and cooperation among merchants.
“Thus, one of the Bugis Makassar philosophies—sipakatuo, sipatokkong, sipakaraja, sipakatau, sipakainge—will be further solidified in its orbit and position as a strategic channel for KKSS’s journey ahead,” he stated.
National figures are scheduled to attend the event, including BPP KKSS General Chairman Andi Amran Sulaiman, Abdul Kadir Karding, Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla, Nurwayah, and Chaerul Amir, along with successful entrepreneurs and Bugis Makassar diaspora from various regions and abroad.
This Bugis Makassar Merchants Meeting is hoped to produce concrete cooperation opportunities in trade, investment, and business development based on regional potentials.
BPP KKSS is optimistic that this event will not only strengthen the solidarity of the Bugis Makassar community but also serve as an economic driver with impacts on regional and national development.
