Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the National Board of Karang Taruna (PNKT), Budisatrio Djiwandono, has asserted that the future of Karang Taruna is determined not by the number of members, but by the quality of cadres capable of providing real benefits to society. “A strong, large, and impactful organisation is not determined by the quantity of cadres, but by the quality of the individuals within the organisation itself,” he stated in Jakarta on Saturday.

During a training of trainers session for the PNKT in Bogor Regency, West Java, on Friday (31/7), he noted that Karang Taruna, which has existed for nearly 66 years, must continue to strengthen itself through sustainable regeneration. Consequently, he stated that Karang Taruna remains open to all young people wishing to serve, regardless of ethnicity, religion, political views, or social status, as the primary requirement is the spirit to contribute and bring benefits to the community.

According to him, enhancing cadre quality is the current administration’s focus, achieved through organisational restructuring, human resource capacity building, and the implementation of training of trainers programmes intended to produce driving cadres across various regions.

The Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, remarked that Karang Taruna possesses significant social capital to support social welfare development, making cadre quality a vital factor in mobilising this potential. “This is an extraordinary social capital, a national asset, and it presents a challenge for Mr Budi and all of you,” he said.

Gus Ipul assigned five key work focuses to Karang Taruna: assisting in the updating of the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), supporting beneficiary families to become more self-sufficient, strengthening disaster preparedness, developing youth entrepreneurship, and assisting vulnerable groups. He noted that Karang Taruna’s presence down to the village level makes it a strategic partner for the government in supporting various social programmes. “We invite Karang Taruna to participate in the success of President Prabowo’s programmes to serve vulnerable groups, strengthen data, and engage in empowerment programmes across various villages and sub-districts in Indonesia,” he concluded.
