Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) has emphasised that strengthening Karang Taruna must begin with solid leadership, a clear direction, and the ability to drive organisational consolidation down to the village and sub-district levels. Consequently, the Training of Trainers (ToT) and the National Board of Karang Taruna (PNKT) retreat are viewed as vital moments to prepare the organisation’s driving cadres throughout Indonesia.

Gus Ipul, alongside the General Chairman of the National Board of Karang Taruna, Budisatrio Djiwandono, opened the ToT and retreat activities. According to a release from the Ministry of Social Affairs in Jakarta on Saturday, the event, which runs until 2 August, serves as a platform for capacity building, aligning organisational vision, and fostering solidarity among officials from central to regional levels.

The programme also included social service activities, such as the distribution of school supplies to students at SDN Karangtengah 5 in the Babakan Madang District, as well as the provision of clean water to local residents as a demonstration of the organisation’s social commitment.

Agus Maimun, the Committee Chairman, stated that the retreat is designed to synchronise the steps and direction of all Karang Taruna officials. In addition to organisational training, participants engaged in outbound activities to strengthen teamwork and cooperation among members.

“The ultimate goal of this retreat is to ensure all officials are unified, possessing the same momentum and direction in running the organisation,” said Agus.

The retreat is attended by 107 national officials and 18 provincial-level Karang Taruna officials. Over the course of three days, participants receive material from various ministerial speakers to enhance leadership capacity, organisational governance, and the ability to design programmes that directly impact the community.

Gus Ipul expressed his appreciation for the National Board of Karang Taruna’s decision to conduct systematic organisational consolidation through this retreat and ToT. He noted that strengthening the organisation’s human resources is the foundation for Karang Taruna to address increasingly complex social challenges.

“This retreat and Training of Trainers will serve as the commander, compass, and leader for the national consolidation movement,” said Gus Ipul.

Budisatrio Djiwandono, General Chairman of the National Board of Karang Taruna, added that the retreat is part of an effort to improve the quality of Karang Taruna’s human resources. He expressed hope that all participants would return with renewed spirit to develop the organisation and enhance community service in their respective regions.
