Budihardjo to be a deputy governor

JAKARTA (JP): Budihardjo Sukmadi, head of the city's Development Planning Board (Bappeda), is expected to be promoted to deputy governor for development affairs, replacing TB.M. Rais who has served the city for more than 30 years.

Budihardjo, who was nominated by Governor Sutiyoso, was interviewed by members of the City Council yesterday.

Deputy Speaker Ade Suraprijatna said after the meeting that the candidate had successfully answered all the council's questions.

"In my personal opinion, Budihardjo is a good candidate. He has served the city for more than 25 years ... He has a good record," Ade said.

Rais gave a final report on his duties yesterday to Governor Sutiyoso and is to retire from office soon. (edt)
