Budiarsa prioritises golf promotion after election as APLGI chairman
Jakarta - The newly elected Chairman of the Asosiasi Pemilik Lapangan Golf Indonesia (APLGI), Budiarsa Sastrawinata, has made golf promotion a top priority for the 2026–2030 term.
‘Golf promotion is APLGI’s top priority moving forward. Additionally, we must improve the quality of golf itself so Indonesia can compete successfully on the international stage,’ Budiarsa said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Budiarsa was elected unopposed as APLGI Chairman during the National Members Meeting (RUANAS) held last week at Damai Indah Golf’s BSD Course in Banten, replacing M. Tachril Sapi’ie, who led the association for two terms from 2018–2022 and 2022–2026. Prior to his election as chairman, Budiarsa served as Deputy Chairman of APLGI.
He stated that golf course owners play a crucial role in promoting national golf development, including helping athletes improve their skills to compete internationally.
He added that support from course owners is vital not only for the industry but also for nurturing talent, as many are committed to golf’s development as a sport.
‘Undoubtedly, golf course owners play a significant role in helping our athletes enhance their performance,’ Budiarsa said.
Meanwhile, Tachril expressed hope that the new APLGI leadership would bring fresh momentum to strengthen the national golf industry.
‘The ‘New Board, New Spirit’ theme was deliberately chosen to ensure the newly elected leadership brings fresh energy, particularly to improve and grow the golf industry we all cherish,’ Tachril said.
During Tachril’s tenure, APLGI implemented several programmes to raise public awareness of golf, including the inaugural Indonesia Golf Festival 2025, scheduled for October 2026.
Established on 19 July 1995, APLGI currently has 58 member golf courses across Indonesia. The association serves as a platform for course owners to enhance the quality of development, maintenance, management, services, and operations of golf facilities.
Alongside electing a new chairman, the RUANAS also formulated proposals and work plans for the 2026–2030 term through two committees formed with members.
