Budi Mulia 4 Elderly Residents Enthusiastically Join Independence Day Competitions with MPP
Community involvement in supporting social rehabilitation is an important part of services for the elderly. This was reflected in the activities of Melati Putri Pertiwi (MPP) together with elderly residents at the Budi Mulia 4 Tresna Werdha Social Care Home (PSTW) in Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Monday (17/8).
The event, organised by MPP to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, featured various activities and competitions with the elderly residents. Fatma Saifullah Yusuf, adviser to the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, also attended the event.
Competitions involving the elderly included cracker eating, a fashion show, balloon catching, and balloon dancing. The activities provided a space for interaction between the elderly and the community while supporting social activities during their stay at PSTW Budi Mulia 4.
Fatma said that attention and care for the elderly must continue to be given, including through activities that directly involve them.
“Hopefully this year will be a year of happiness for all the grandfathers and grandmothers. Thank you to Mrs Ala Alatas and friends who have come again and brought gifts for the elderly,” Fatma said in a written statement on Monday (17/8/2026).
Fatma also expressed appreciation to MPP for once again participating in activities with the elderly. She expressed hope that such social activities would continue and provide benefits to the community.
Head of PSTW Budi Mulia 4, Munjir Munaji, said that activities involving the community have a positive impact on the social rehabilitation process of the elderly.
“The impact is very significant. They become very happy and do not feel lonely. With our presence, they feel cared for, served, and valued,” Munjir said.
According to Munjir, activities with the community provide opportunities for the elderly to interact and participate in shared activities while receiving services at PSTW Budi Mulia 4.
“So, they also feel cared for, served, and valued. They are very happy. This is a very good activity,” he said.
Munjir expressed hope that the collaboration with MPP could continue on an ongoing basis.
“Hopefully this is not just for today, but can continue in the future. This is proof of MPP’s concern for our social care residents, the elderly, our parents who need attention so that they feel served and happy,” he said.
Meanwhile, MPP Chairwoman Ala Alatas said that activities with the elderly are part of MPP’s social activities to provide attention to groups in need.
“Alhamdulillah, we are still given the opportunity to participate here every 17 August. We express our gratitude for the opportunity that is always given,” Ala said.
Melati Putri Pertiwi (MPP) is an organisation engaged in the social sector with a focus on the elderly and groups in need. Through the spirit of ‘Preserving Culture and Caring for the Elderly’, MPP encourages activities that bring the community together with the elderly while maintaining concern for the elderly group.
One of the social care residents at PSTW Budi Mulia 4, Fernando (71), said he was happy to participate in the activities organised by MPP.
“We feel as if we are valued and respected. Because we are already old. When people like Mrs Alatas and Mrs Fatma come, it is extraordinary,” Fernando said.
He expressed hope that activities with MPP could continue because they provide opportunities for the elderly to interact with the community.
The event concluded with the symbolic presentation of competition prizes to PSTW Budi Mulia 4 and the elderly residents. The joint activity between MPP and PSTW Budi Mulia 4 served as a space for the community to show attention to the elderly. Such collaboration is expected to continue to support the activities, interaction, and social functioning of the elderly during their stay at the care home.
From the MPP extended family, Hj. Dewi Motik Pramono, Hetty Andika Perkasa, Hj. Melani Suharli, Hj. Lisa Ayodhia, as well as several members and other invitees, also attended the event.
